Virtual Events signify a reduction in the number of CO2 emissions in order to achieve the results equivalent to those gained from a physical event but dramatically reducing the amount of travel necessary. It has been calculated that the carbon footprint created by a Virtual Event is 142 times smaller than the footprint created by a physical event.

This evidence has motivated the ONU to recommend the application of Virtual Events in business to combat climate change. This Green Technology consequently fulfils a dual objective of encouraging the development of digital content in all industry sectors as well as the promotion of business models that are emergent of electronic business and their capacity to diminish harmful emissions in the environment.
